I figured onboard sound would have been further along by now considering the nvidia soundstorm was impressive but nvidia stopped making it.. Realtek is terrible compared to what Soundstorm was IMO.

I have a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R with an i7 920, so by no means it is old

I don't really understand why there is such a lack of bass, but it is annoying. Also, the equalizer settings are meh with Realtek.

Did you check your speakers & cable? Maybe its an issue on the other end.

It's funny that you mention that because I checked the software and it showed that it wasn't plugged in. I unplugged it and made sure it was plugged in good, and I have some bass now. Still not as good and clean as my X-Fi, but it works for now.

I had a set of Logitech Z-5300 for a year or two and all of a sudden the rear speakers just stopped working. I fiddled around with them for a bit (never took the woofer unit apart) and finally deduced that the input for the rears went bad. Could be your speaker system has just met it's point of obsolescence.

Nah, I actually don't use my Z-5500s that often. I'm using my Tritton headset, which is definitely not messed up. Had it for 7 months so far.

Is your headset plugged into the Z speaker volume control? My Logitechs were controlled with an external volume control and if that is causing the problem, your headset wont work either.

I bought a X-FI Surround 5.1, which is a USB 2.0 soundcard, a while ago for reasons I won't go into here, and I ended using it for my desktop computer. I'm very satisfied, and I can easily connect a laptop to my 5.1 speaker system as bonus. They have inbetween replaced it with a "pro" model, so you will get this one even cheaper than I got it (I got it for like 60 bucks).

No.... lol. That would just be stupid, no clue why anyone would do that. This headset is 5.1 with the 3 cables so it doesn't exactly work well plugging it into the side of the Logitech where theres just the normal green jack.

There's nothing wrong with my audio equipment - I'm just looking for a replacement for my X-Fi Platinum.
