I will echo Speak, do you really really need a cell phone? If you income changes with the contracts and the early termination fees that cell phone can become a very expensive luxury.

Cell phones are a lot like religion. Give an arsehole a phone or a god, and they ruin your day.

I got rid of my smartphone about 3 months ago and have never been happier. I don't even carry a phone much anymore...it's almost like the feeling of freefalling...best move I ever made.

It's so much fun though.

I imagine he's aware of the data plans required. Going from a feature phone to smart phone will raise your cell bill by $30 to $40 a month.

If you decide against a smart phone for some reason. There is always an Apple iPod Touch, you can run iOS applications. Similarly Samsung makes a Galaxy Player which let you run Android apps. Both small phone sized devices, pretty much running the same OS, but without calling or mobile internet abilities.

Haaa... was going to post a link the the Galaxy Player but nobody seems to be selling it. Though I'm pretty sure the device launched months ago. Weird. It might be a Best Buy exclusive, their website is down (TouchPad is gone folks, stop hammering their site!).

Well maybe not plumbing, but since I live in San Diego, I'd totally give up AC... wait... I gave that up already...

Queue record heat wave for San Diego.

I have the droid X, and it's been great. The most recent system update seems a bit chunkier though. They did fix the photo time stamp issue though (it was recording in zulu with no option to change it).

The phones I listed I can get for free with a contract.. Even if new ones are on the way wouldnt it be months after that before you could get one for free? I know the Thunderbolt is 70$ with a contract right now.

The reason I am looking for a phone now is that I am out and about more than I was previously. And I realize that its going to be 80-130$ ( 130 if I get a 2 phone plan ) and yes that is a chunk of change. Another option is just a prepaid phone but I cant really find one that I fancy.

I have the HTC incredible. When I first got it after a few weeks I started having some major issues with it Auto rebooting while playing games. I did everything under the sun that was mentioned on different forums to get it to stop but nothing worked, app killers, anti virus, in fact when I took it in they said that the anti virus actually does more harm than good. I did a factory reset and still the same problem. I finally got verizon to replace it and I have had the new one for a few months now and it has worked great and I love it.

As someone has said before, just take the Droid X off the list if the X2 is an option, the X2 has a duel core processor and is a lot faster from what I hear. Its what I am going after when I get my next upgrade. So between the incredible 2 and Droid X2 thats a tough one. If you are into games and vid watching I would say go for the X2 just for the bigger screen. But if your looking for data speed over such things as games and vids I would say go for the incredible. 2, because I believe it is 4G but I could be wrong, where the X is not

Thanks again folks.

I have a good bit to consider and the monthly price is the big one.
