So my new GTX 580 PNY card is 6 weeks old, and for the last 4 weeks it has been recovering from a driver failure problem when playing LoL, i figured riots patch from 4 weeks ago was the reason i would crash once a game or get 10-15second frezzeing problems.

Today for the first time it happend in another game WoW so its not riot.

What can cause this?

ran two mem test over the last and both showed the ram fine.

heat stays between 40-50c for ym cpu while my gpu runs around 40 give or take a few.

tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the new ones the card has (there dated last month) updated my onboard sound card with realtek drivers (uninstalled those today as i thought they where the problem after spending sevral hours google)

i am stumped as it does not list anything other then "nivida drivers have recovered from a failure basicly" no dll no error codes nothing sometimes it does not even say that it just crash's my league of legends game with no msg at all.

And for wow today it gave me the we have recoverd msg.

Can you borrow another GPU to test?

Could be a bad card.

Depending on where you bought it from you might be able to take it in and exchange it just to make sure it isn't the card if you kept the packaging and receipt and they have a 60 day or greater return policy. Had that happen to me a couple years ago with a nividia i bought and some times it would work fine and others it would freeze up and when i reboot I'd get a driver error of some kind. Took it back and exchanged for a new one and never had a problem again.

its from bestbuy website bought the PNY for the LTW atlest, just dont wana ship it off till i am sure tis the problem.

and my system does not lock up or crash just the game itself once the driver recovers if the game didnt crash the game keeps going.

sometimes if i can alt tab fast enough then back in it stops the freeze/crash right away.

edit after hours today it seems every fix was a bandaid from removing 1 stick of ram reinstalling drivers useing a old card then the new one again etc.. no one but for one had any fix that lasted longer then a week and that was the realtek drivers ( and his fix was posted last month) and that lasted 2 games for me lol.

Might be a bad driver file or somesuch. Did you try driversweeper (http://www.phyxion.net/)? Run that and ccleaner (http://www.piriform.com/).

Download the latest drivers and reinstall.

I had a similar problem and it seems to be gone now after doing that.

2 things come to mind...NEVER USE THE LATEST DRIVERS with a NVIDIA card, second is your PSU may not be supplying the correct voltage CONTINUALLY.

I don't know why #1 is even mentioned but #2 is definitely plausible. If the 12v Rail is overloaded, this could be your problem.

The only three things I have seen commonly cause this are (in this order) Unstable factory overclock, drivers, power supply.
