While many of us may take it for granted, I think there are plenty of people out there that don't have any business touching a motherboard. I usually want to strangle at least one of these people on a daily basis at work.

Nothing wrong with knowing your limitations.

I 2nd the put it together yourself comments said on this thread. The confidence of doing it yourself is worth it and you'll have the skill to do your own upgrades. That said overclocking the "k" processors is incredibly easy there's just a multiplier value in the bios that you move up, however testing for stability is tougher. That said after market air coolers get great results there's no need to go to water cooling, the biggest air coolers can be a tricky fit depending on where the ram slots are. I know you can OC to 4GHz pretty much 24/7 with out any worries. That said people will recommend bumping up the voltage but thats where you start to possibly damage a CPU.

I'm not going to put it together myself. I see the wisdom in it, but it won't do me any good or save me any money if I mess something up.

I think I will take the advice on the case though. $70 that I can put towards the actual build rather then into the case is well worth it.

What is the difference between getting an ASUS brand Nvidia and an EVGA brand?

ASUS is a Chinese company, EVGA is an American company. EVGA generally gets you much better customer service.

does evga still make motherboards and if so, are they good? i'm going to be upgrading my mb/cpu/ram/video card soon because my current one doesn't support the i processors and i need one for bf3. (well i don't need one but if i can't play it at max settings i will be the laughing stock of my bedroom.)

EVGA mostly just does high end motherboards now, so all their Z68 boards are in the $200 to $300 range. Good stuff, but pricey.

While ASUS is a Chinese company you didn't specify which. It is headquartered in Taiwan, Republic of China and not communist China. I have had very good luck with ASUS components over the years.

Looking at the local computer shops website the EVGA card looks like it is about $70 cheaper after a mail in rebate.

At least I think it is the same card.

EVGA GForce GTX 570 1280 MB GDDR5, $339.99 (309.99 after Mail in rebate).

The Asus card is

Asus ENGTX 570/2DI/1280 MD5 (369.99)

Are they different cards?

ASUS and Gigabyte have been the best luck for me. However I don't usually spend what you are spending here so it may justify it to go with something more high end, that being said EVGA mobo's are damn expensive.

If I buy a EVGA Video card does my mobo have to be EVGA as well?
