I posted this on the We Got Served boards and thought I would also post here since I've been a member of this community for a while and know the base is strong.

My windows home server is V1 and acting up. The RDP service stops working after 3 or 4 log ins and drives me nuts.

My current system is built off a P4 2.8 gHz processor with EIDE hard drives. I just recently (past month) replaced my motherboard and CPU because of non start (No POST) issues and thought if I replaced with the same motherboard and CPU I could avoid OS reinstallation.

Oh, silly me!

I have been running WHS V1 for quite some time. I am having problems with the RDS stops working after 3 or 4 log ins.

I recently purchased WHS2011 and I cannot install it due to my processor not being 64 bit.

I dont want to invest alot of money due to the money already invested. I am looking for the least expensive choices for 64 bit CPU's. I dont have a problem replacing the motherboard. I dont have a preference Intell or AMD. I have a video card that I can use if PCIe is necessary. I DO NOT however have any spare SATA hard drives.

Any suggestions?

This is the mainboard I just replaced a couple weeks ago. It is an Abit IS7. I was to get a used one with a P4 2.4gHz CPU for $56. The mainboard works great and I really hate to ditch it but if I have to then I have to.

Edit: dam Auto correct

Are there any errors posted in event viewer or anything? The service is still running but not responding?

The event log showed a repeating error (I dont have the verbage) but when I searched for the verbage on the internet I could not find anything substantial.

I am in the process of re-installing WHS V1

I might be wrong but looks like the Intel 3.73 P4EE is a socket 478 with 64bit capabilities. Good luck finding one.

Replace the board. the CPU. and memory cheaper and easier.

I'm pretty sure you can get an older Athlon (even multicore) with corresponding motherboard for very cheap now.

OK,

I did find one P4 EE 3.73 on ebay. It is in GB and the equivalent US dollar for the item is ~$105

I found quite a few AMD CPUs and mainboards that I can pair together for less than or equal to that price.
Sempron 2.8 that I've read can be unlocked for dual core
and
BioStar AM3
total cost ~$95

Has anyone had any experience with either of these items?

This is a personal Opinion...But I would never purchase a Sempron / Celeron / Duron. If Im buying a chip, Im getting a full version.
