For me I am upgrading from a First Gen iPad so it is a no-brainer. I bought my wife an iPad 2 when they were released but don't plan to upgrade hers until the next model.

I bought a 16GB black wifi iPad today. I didn't plan on buying an iPad today, but decided to just do it. While I'm impressed with the iPad, it is really more my disappointment with Android hardware manufactures than anything.

If they are talking about graphics performance (and I am pretty sure they are), I think it's very likely true. Nvidia has really been sucking at graphics performance in their Tegra processors.
In this Anandtech review of the Transformer Prime with a Tegra 3 vs the iPad 2, the iPad 2's GPU just stomps all over the newer Tegra 3.

So it's very plausible that in OpenGL, the iPad 3 may be up to 4 times faster than the Tegra 3. Though in more realistic conditions it may be merely 2 or 3 times faster.
Sadly for Android, we probably have to wait until after summer before we see the next gen graphics cores come out that might challenge this.
1 test was close to twice as fast, another was only about 25% faster, and the rest were pretty much neck and neck. Got to love hand picking what results you want to show

Marketing people are definitely going to handpick. But still last year's iPad 2's GPU easily beats this year's Tegra 3 in every test. There is no question the PowerVR SGX543MP4 is going to absolutely demolish and mop the floor with the Tegra 3 in GPU performance. And of course the iPad will need that power to game on such a high resolution display.
Tegra 3's GPU is sufficient for 1280x800 displays. Gets a bit more questionable on tablets with 1920x1200 displays if you are gaming.
But for the most part Android tablets, while improving the CPU performance have severely neglected the GPU performance. While Apple has made that a priority because so much of it's UI has been GPU accelerated for a long time and Google is slowly been moving there.
All the ARM manufactures are releasing 32nm SoCs this year. Qualcomm's first S4 unfortunately still uses an old GPU, but will be refreshed after the second half of the year with a much improved GPU. Samsung's Exynos 5 series I believe will have a GPU right away and might arrive before Summer time. The TI OMAP 5 is going to feature the same GPU Apple used last year. I'm doubtful any of these GPUs will catch up to what Apple is using this year.
