You cannot deduct time donated on your tax returns. Unless there is a special form I am unaware of.

I have no idea how their "numbers" are gathered or computed but they seem to be more than a bit off.

If they simply ask people I could understand how they come up with them...as many in the US probably do think it's charity to hold a hot dog sale to send their kid to camp. Or that charitable giving includes buying lottery tickets since some of the money goes to education or something.

I volunteer, but not substantially,, I think a lot of people in metropolitan areas usually jump on the breast cancer walks and those events. I usually do a couple USO events and spend time at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, I give to coat and food drives and toys for tots, but I give no one money. I don't trust people with cash.
