What makes a band great? 5 hit songs? The beetles have maybe 15 great songs out of 1000s.. Which is not bad. The ramones have 1 hit song. My favorite band in high school was nirvana, they only had 2 real hits and all from one of their 3 albums..
One hit gets you recognized.. 10+ hits i guess means you get to be a defining band.
Maybe led zeppelin is the least overrated, they have a bunch of great songs ( not sure if any really are hits though) but are pretty much unknown.

The Ramones never had a hit song. The fact that the masses never got it is a point in their favor. It's all great to talk popularity until you remember that Laverne and Shirley and Friends were the top shows of their time.

Thats like saying your cell phone is junk because the masses use it.
There are hits and then there are 15 minutes of fame hits, im referring to real hits.. Not stuff like the macarena.
Led zep is great but the current generation does not know any of their music. The ramones have 1 hit song - its the only reason i know they exist.
I have never heard a rolling stones song, i just know some of the guys in the band look like shit.
