I do.

People can call me a ninja-looter all they want, but the game allows all party members to roll on loot. You wanted that <insert uber item here>? Offer to buy it or trade something I might want.

If I'm going to spend 4 hours hitting the same set of keys over and over to kill a raid boss, I'm going to roll on everything that drops.

If you need on shit you don't need and you know other classes in the group wants ( especially if its your guild) then you're a baddie.

Working against your faction = you're a stupid noob and not a team player.

How does utilizing the game's loot distribution system the way it is designed make anyone an asshole?

you're missing the point.

all group members contributed to clearing bosses/dungeons. Not everyone has something to trade you want. By taking something THEY NEED( which in turn will make it easier and faster to run the dungeon since we'll be more geared) you're working against your guild and your realm.

You're going to make shit go slower by sabotaging the people who most likely contributed more than you did

This was a major benefit of DAOC realms and the early days when it was damned difficult to level up, or hop servers... if you did this once with any major guild, they were in the alliance, and you were blacklisted from pretty much anything good after that. You simply wouldn't get grouped and you'd die trying to tag along, for lack of healing. I watched this happen to several douchebags who deserved it.

If you're with friends, you don't even roll, you just pass the stuff out. In PUGs you might be tempted to roll on everything, but do this next time you win an item in a PUG that somebody else could use more. Let them buy it from you for a reasonable price and share the money with the rest of the PUG. Everybody wins and you get big leadership points. You'd be amazed at how much more fun playing MMOs becomes when everyone knows you and wants to be in your group. This is how you get there.

Seems like a bit of a contradiction.

If we all contributed, how can any one person rolling on loot be a saboteur?
