There are some really good wood laminates out there right now. No one can tell the difference between it and real hardwood unless you tell them.

If you are a couple yuppie lawyers who stand in one place get hardwood. If you are a family that actually lives in a home, get carpet. Carpet is easier to maintain, quieter, warmer, and cheaper. Hardwood is for show.

Never understood the american tenacity for carpet and wearing shoes indoors..
carpet is discusting! I'd go hardwood, my floor is made out of birch i believe.

Engineered stone is made of dust and rock chips bonded together with glue or some shit.
It's a lot cheaper than real stone and you can get it put down with no cracks or grout like you would have with real stone. They can make it look like whatever stone you want. Lasts forever, easy to take care of, and did I mention a LOT cheaper than real stone?

Unless you have a maid cleaning your floor everyday, and kudos if you do, then carpet allows you to skip a day or two.
Carpet grabs the dirt and holds it.
Hardwood and laminate just get your feet/socks dirty.
A vote for hardwoods is a vote for toe funk.
