We've replaced the subfloor. The walls are studs at the moment with drywall going up next week. We're at the decision time for floor coverings.

Living room, guest bedroom, office, and study.

Hardwood everywhere but the bedroom. Carpet in the bedroom.

Hardwood if you can afford it for sure in the living areas except bedrooms! Laminate is nice if you get the 12 mm thickness or the thickest one you can get, otherwise it is bouncy and cheap feeling/looking..

Area rugs in bedrooms/living areas.. complete carpeting is gross..

I like hardwood myself. However, you live in cold country. Does carpet help with energy efficiency?

I have hardwoods throughout the house. We eventually carpeted over it in most rooms.
The hardwoods look very nice but there is a high maintenance to them to keep them looking sharp and shiny.

If you entertain often and want to impress maybe leave hardwoods in the single room that you do taht the most in, otherwise go with carpet.

too much work

No not at all but it keeps you from walking on a cold floor

Right now real hardwood adds the most value to your home but is expensive.

There are some good laminate products but if you get the wrong one, you will regret it.

Hardwood never seems to go out of style and and will last much longer than carpet.

Carpet is cheaper to install but more expensive to maintain.

I personally prefer hardwood.

Hardwood, you can buy engineered hardwood to save money. I have bamboo hardwood In the living area and kitchen, carpet in bedrooms and closer, stone tiles in bathrooms.
