FWIW Tych, my cell bill is $40/month and we don't have a land line, but I am just slightly less of a dinosaur than you are because I don't have a smart phone, just a regular old dumb phone.

I wonder what others pay for their cell phones. I always hear about people bitching about their cell phone bills. I just assume they are all high like the ones I hear.

Unlimited text/talk/web is 35 bucks a month. Cheaper than having a home phone. If people pay more than that, it's their problem.
I was just going thru deleting some of my texts, cause the in box was full, and a quick glance at each showed that the vast majority of them consisted of 5 words or less. I'm gonna write down the first 10 of them to show you.

Gems of great literary value or something right? Sure texts can be useful, but pick up the god damn phone once in a while. Besides I like to hear a voice telling me to go f*** myself, not read it.

Yeah, I had this conversation with a friend a few weeks ago actually. Her 13 year old son was bitching that he wanted a smart phone or a NEW smart phone or somesuch. I made some smartass remark to him about how he should figure out a way to come up with the $80/month to pay for it and then he could have it. His mother was quick to jump in and tell me how it wouldn't cost that much for his, but would be in the $40/month category. I then got into a conversation with her about it. Her and her husband's phones would go from like $90 to $120/month each if they got the expanded data plan they would need to cover their kid's phone, which would only cost $40 extra a month...

I bought my phone, a crappy "smartphone" LG Optimus for 30 bucks. 3 bucks for a new SIM card and I was good to go. As said above, I pay 35 bucks a month for service unlimited everything, no contract.
Seems to work fine to me.
Don't get me wrong on the text thing, I'm glad people actually want to get in touch with me, I just haven't had a phone call in weeks. It's all text all the time. Sometimes it's nice to hear the voice ya know?
