How is it possible in a society where we take law so seriously that we allow the barbaric practice of suspending the constitution and law to allow over privileged politicians hand out 'get out of jail free' cards? What can possibly go wrong?

Pardons are a good idea. But they should be publicized a lot more.

This power for the President has no constitutional limits. He could theoretically pardon the entire prison population. After a president seriously abuses this power the constitution will be ammended to limit it

i'm not sure how using a power in the constitution is "suspending" it

There should be some kind of limits on it, it's abused more than it's used correctly.

This is what happens when idiots are given FULL authority to perform pardons.
http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/09/justice/mississippi-murder-pardons/index.html?hpt=hp_t2
"(CNN) -- In his last days in office, outgoing Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour pardoned four men convicted of murder, a state official said Monday.
David Gatlin, Joseph Ozment, Charles Hooker and Anthony McCray received full pardons and were released at 1 p.m. Sunday, said Suzanne Singletary, spokeswoman for the Mississippi Department of Corrections. All four were serving life sentences and worked as trusties at the governor's mansion, she said.
"It is at any governor's discretion," said Singletary."

i'm not seeing the issue here....do you hold the same disdain for the pardoning powers when someone that shouldn't be locked up is pardoned?

Go look at what people wrote about it at the time. I think it was Madison who said we needed a pardon power because the courts were too harsh.
Things have pretty much reversed themselves over the past 200 years. Now the political branches are dominated by hardline "tough on crime" ideologues and it's the courts that are more humane.
