i am getting older though, and going bald. i feel like it is now just a combover

Don't take advice from some young pup with a full head of hair. WTF does he know about hair that grows in some spots and not in others?
Shave your head and keep it ultra short. Unless you are an ugly mofo it's always preferable to the alternatives.
