Doubt it is possible for him to cause the same excitement as last time. Again the question is how big will the excitement difference be between the two candidates

No way in hell he's getting a VP nod. The convention would /headasplode if he did that. Besides, the VP slot is all about making the candidate look good, and Huntsman isn't the right person for that job. Maybe SecState at the most.

I don't know if it would have that much backlash. A lot of us like Huntsman.

He appeals to the moderate crowd that stretches across the aisle.

Romney needs to tie up the independents that came out in 2010.

Huntsman would be a good way to do that. (ie. make the ticket look good)

To all the Ron Paul nutjobs:

Ron Paul isn't the future. He's a relic of the past. A relic better left buried. His America is an ugly place.

You're either Mormon or fairly pro-Mormon. You're not exactly the demographic that Romney needs more support from.

Romney doesn't wear his religion on his sleeve, which has contributed quite a bit to his success. If a Mormon president were to nominate the only other Mormon candidate as his VP, a lot of people would have to question what role religion played in the decision, and as an extension what role religion will play in his administration as a whole. People might even start wondering if a Mormon president would take his orders from SLC. I don't think that it would be true any more than a Catholic president would take orders from The Vatican, but even the appearance of religious favoritism is going to make people ask these questions. Besides, Huntsman has State Department experience so people wouldn't question his motives once the votes were counted (not that it would matter by then anyhow).

I am not Mormon. I am an E&C Catholic. Although I don't really even go on Easter and Christmas anymore.

That aside, after hearing you position it that way, I can see how it would or could be a detriment to Romney.

I really did not even consider Huntsman religion when looking at him as a possible VP. Romney needs someone that appeals to the middle left.

huntsman won't be offered the VP. He's too close to being a Romney clone. The VP spot will go to a candidate who appeals to southern voters. I had been thinking Haley Barbour before he pardoned all those folks. I don't think he would have done that if he was a serious contender for VP. Maybe Nikki Haley. Get a woman on the ticket. Not sure if she is quite ready for the big time, though.

VP is an empty position. you can't choose a good VP to help you. you can only choose a bad one to hurt you.
