It's a great place to back up digital photos without having to use my own hard drive space.

I wasn't specifically referring to FB in my explanation. I was referring to a historical case of a company that took information that you had no control over. This particular data collection model has actually been around for a very long time, long before computers were created.
You are free to put your faith in FB or others, I don't, based on history, no matter what they or others claim for how their model works.

that's kind of a terrible use of facebook since they don't let you download them all in bulk if you needed them back. or at least they didn't when i was using it.

You can DL any pics you put up, or anyone puts up.
A lot of things changed since you last used it, considering I've been able to Download anything off FB for a good year + now

I think he means you have to DL them one at a time, and I think he's right. You can upload them in bulk but not DL them. Which is fine and understandable...it's not really an FTP storage site even though that's what I'm using mine as

Ahh, yeah. that's true. Who cares, though. they're still all there for you to see and you can DL the ones you want.
Still, facebook is pretty sweet. I have 0 complaints about it.

My only complaint is that they seem bound and determined to completely rework the look and feel of the site approximately every six weeks or so. I log on so infrequently that I have to relearn to use the site every time I do because everything has been moved, changed, etc.
When I use it I use the iphone app and that has remained fairly constant as far as I can tell.
