If I haven't seen them in a while, yes I shake hands.

I almost always bring over a bottle of something for them if I know they're a drinker or a food item if they're an eater.

I'm in the military. But I use it the same way as "dude" or "man". I usually call a peer or juniors by their first name and seniors by their rank, officers always as sir. The civilians usually want to be called by their first name, but I'll throw a Mr. or Miss/Mrs in there once in a while to keep things interesting, that usually gets a snarky "Petty Officer" or "N1" in return.

One of the security guards call me "sir" even though I'm two or three decades younger. It bugs me and I've been right on the edge of telling him not to several times but he does it with everyone and I think it would hurt his feelings if I told him not to so I haven't yet.

Just call him sir back.

I thought about that but it felt too weird. I have never called anyone "sir" in my life except as a joke and I don't think I could do it with a straight face. I think it would just end up offending him too.

I Always give a hand shake to all my friends whenever I bump into them. What's weird about that? Most people put out their hands anyways. It's rare I see people I know that I don't give a hand shake or a hug too

I think some people just aren't polite and society has let people get away with it

But yeah, I also get that "old soul" comment about myself a lot too

I too am an Old Soul then. I was raised to say sir and ma'am . Also please and thank you.

When I hear people using the term sir I think of Eddie Haskell. Basically the entire South is a bit like Eddie Haskell.
