I've always done this. I don't know if it's normal. Most my friends roll with it, but I can tell it catches them off guard at first. think I was just born a century too late.

I usually bring a nice bottle of something over too. I think manners should get more play these days.

I think some people just aren't polite and society has let people get away with it

But yeah, I also get that "old soul" comment about myself a lot too

I am former military and had to train myself not to say sir when I was nervous or new and come across subservient to people. It was hurting my career. I reserve sir for old people who haven't told me to call them something else.

At work I call EVERYONE by their first name. This is strictly a tactical decision though.

I try not to do it but it is a reflex. I've gotten a lot better, at my last job people I worked with actually poked fun at it a lot. I also say "howdy" a lot IRL. Training yourself that had to have been tough, I agree it does come off as a weakness to some.

I don't know where I got it from. My dad wasn't former military, both of my parents are former hippies

I say howdy all the time. So that is a funny similarity. I think you can get away with being a little quirky and folksy, but you can't let it define you. That is altogether different than the posture you take in a communication/relationship.

Oh yeah for sure, lol. Defiantly not a total serious greeting by any means. I am a pretty upbeat kind of guy though to most people, compared to other people in general that is

what i am known most for is saying "outstanding" when someone asks me how I am doing. A lot of times in meetings someone would say, well we already know how GC is doing.
