Do we have to declare war in order to declare peace?
If they stop doing things that warrant us killing them then peace will happen.

having said that - as to the OP, if the Taliban distance themselves officially from Omar, why not.

I think some of you have very strange notions of peace. Let me rephrase the question:
Should the Afghanistan government and the coalition forces seek to destroy every last Taliban member in both Afghanistan and Pakistan as an end goal?
If so, how much time and how many American lives should we invest before we say enough? If not, where do we draw the line?

If the afgan govt says they want to make peace with the taliban and work on a co-existance who the F#$% are we to say no and keep fighting...

We were great business partners before 9/11. The Taliban were honored guests of the Bushes in Texas when they came to discuss a pipeline through Afghanistan back in 2000. Of course, after they said no we went to war with their country and ended up getting the pipeline that we wanted anyway, so there is no reason we can't go back to that previous business partnership.
