I think the Republicans resoundingly failed on this question during their last debate. Ron Paul was the only one who distinguished between the Taliban and Al Qaeda, noting that a) it was Al Qaeda that attacked us and b) the Taliban just want us out and do not have the means to attack us at home.
Romney wants us there forever, it sounds like. They're our enemy, how can you suggest we make peace with them?

I'm not suggesting a blanket withdrawal, I think there need to be conditions and they must be met and maintained. But taking peace off the table is just asinine.

You can only make peace with equals or those that threaten you. The Taliban is not our equal and does not threaten us.
I think we should establish diplomatic relations with them however.

We should either pull out of the Middle East completely and let them have their wars or we should put the pedal to the medal and take out the "bad guys" and put in who we want.
