I wish we had forums for when Kennedy went through the primaries.
It would have been interesting to see if there were dichotomies.

People were afraid JFK would give his allegiance first to the pope/RC church, then to America. TBH I think he owed his allegiance at least as much to his pants as to his country.
Only the fundy mormons practice polygamy, the mainstream church outlawed it around 100 years ago (although its leaders continued to practice it for another 15-20 years and the doctrine that it's necessary for salvation is still included in their scriptures). They do say that "following the prophet" (current church president) is about the most important thing you can do in life though, so it would be interesting to see if a mormon got elected to a position with enough political power whether or not the church president would start flexing his muscles and try to influence politics more.

It's no coincidence that most people think the Mormons only control one state. They are playing sneaky. They will have a 3rd and a 4th state before too long. If people were aware what was happening, they would resist.
Now while people don't realize what's happening they can get people used to the idea of being lead by a Mormon. In another decade or two, it will be much much harder to get a Mormon into the Whitehouse if people haven't already been acclimated to the idea.

Like I said, Mormons as individuals are excellent citizens. The LDS church, on the other hand, has an agenda and a considerable amount of wealth and power to direct into it.
