we will strip every planet we find of every resource that is precious to us.

Which brings up an interesting idea. Our galaxy is something like 13 billion years old. We are probably not the first intelligent species to arise.

Doesn't it seem likely that some other species already stripped our planet of every truly precious resource. If so, then everything we find on the planet Earth is just the crap that was so worthless that it wasn't worth taking.

At 13 billion years old, giving the closest star systems time to form and cool, one could guess that someone could be 9 billion years ahead of us. Do they need our gas too?

Gas is only precious to us because someone else already took the really good energy sources.

I often wonder what a civilization that's 100 years, 10,000 years, 1 million years, and a few hundred millions years ahead of us is like. Is it a Star Wars-type civilization, where they're ruled by a central area, or is it more Star Trek, where its essentially the UN in space? Are they the type that wants to conquer planets for the lulz? Or maybe they're advanced enough to see how stupid it is to kill so many beings so recklessly?

I'd hate for Earth to be found out by a expansionist civilization that's got hundreds or thousands of star systems under their control. If we get found out and they find us interesting enough to invade (rather than just quietly observing us), I doubt we'll somehow be able to beat them (short of a friendly alliance that decides we're worth saving, which considering the stuff going on right now, I wouldn't be surprised if they said we deserve our fate).

And in the event we somehow repel the first invasion fleet, I'm sure they'll send another 10 fleets. Or worse, they'll just hurl a couple of asteroids our way. It only took one about 6 miles/10 kilometers wide to take out the dinosaurs, and we don't exactly have the technology to deflect or shoot them down either.

Or maybe I'm just thinking too much into this lol...

well, we've found a diamond planet already. which will completely destroy the diamond industry. i wonder if debeers has enough money to stop us from mining that isht when we get there.

We could just mine asteroids for all the materials we need.

A few of the easiest ways to explain why some advanced alien civilization hasn't already shown up and said hi are:

1. Faster than light travel just isn't possible.
2. No civilization has advanced far enough to discover FTL travel
3. The universe is so big, and intelligent life so rare, that we might never meet anyone else.
4. We are such screw ups that no one else even wants to say hello.

Of those possibilities the scariest is number 2, because if that one is true it probably means that civilizations always die before they get around to discovering it.

I think it's either 1 or 4 personally.

i don't see why Aliens would hide their existence if they have or are still visiting here.

I'm down for strip mining the universe for what ever we want.
