There is a balance point of sanity between ritual killing and enabling. Kicking them out of the house isn't for their benefit, it's for the rest of the families benefit. It might end up helping, but it's not the main goal.

If you really want to help a drug addict, give them an unlimited supply of their drug of choice....and see if they can find a reason not to use it. You would be surprised at how many do. Much of the addiction cycle is built upon the chase, remove that part of it...and it doesn't look quite as enticing. Of course, quite a few will die, but then...they are the ones that are going to die anyway.

Could I do that with my daughter? No god damn way. Glad she didn't fall into that lifestyle. Of course she knows I'd murder/suicide her if she did. No doubt in her mind. I'm not hard or tough, but I'm fucking consistent.

If it's your daughter? Everything you can.

Once you're an adult the burden on your existence falls on you.

If you're family goes above and beyond their obligation then that is a credit to their love and patience, but I don't think you have to keep a problem around just because you happen to share some blood.

The point of family is that they stick with you and help you. No one is there for you like your family. At least thats how its supposed to be.

Anyway, i can see kicking a man out oif the house. Men dontt end up with a ton if options- your son might come back dead though.

A woman though - she can sell her body and from watching intervention, they all do. There are a lot of druggie men willing to share their bed, car and drugs with a woman. You're going to feel terrible when your daughter comes back ruined.

I watch intervention and the families usually kick their kds out with the thought the kid will realize how good they had it at home. It pretty much fails all the time though.

It must be tough to kick the drug habit. The government, which is out of money now, needs to spend some of the drug enforcement money on drug treatment centers and fund research on anti addiction drugs. A smart more compassionate approach is needed

I saw one girl on tv on one of those intervention shows whose brain was destroyed by crack, she was out of control, yet her parents continued to support her in her own place because even though she was so out of control and bad they knew on the streets she would be dead within a few years. Sad

Just skimming thru the thread, every situation is different. There are situations where I could envision kicking her out as well.
However that would not be my first choice, nor my first 50 or so.
But there is a limit, people have to be willing to try and get better, and you don't let a single family member destroy a family of many.

My friend had a daughter they finally threw out, she was stealing from everyone in the family and doing some really stupid and dangerous stuff. His other kids started having emotional problems and his wife had a nervous breakdown, at that point he tossed her.

Yeah the other kids is what I had in mind. I got rid of my first wife for being a terrible influence on our kids.
It would hurt but I would absolutely boot one of my kids if it meant preventing the other kids from sinking along with the one bad one.

A woman can whore under her parents' roof just as easily at a crack dealer's place. A lot of people probably give up a little too quickly and I agree that tough love is a stupid approach (really for either gender), though.
