but there is a distinction between taking us to war and keeping us there

He flapped his arms and cried about the war during his campaign. Oh what a terrible mishandling of the war Bush did!
He got elected in Nov, and then took office in January, ready to focus our full effort on winning the war, the real necessary war!

Then he sat with his thumb up his ass all year waiting until fall before deciding to take a 90 day window to decide how best to handle the war.
This most critical of issues that he campaigned on.

Then he decided to disregard the advice of his commanding general on the ground in Afghanistan, to the point the general called Obama basically a noob, and resigned.
Because the generals advice has not been heeded, we have lost the faith of the Afghan government, neutral parties on the ground, and have more dead under 3 years of Obama than 8 years under Bush.
