The fact that Diablo exists with its near perfect gear and loot system really makes it shocking that basically every other developer to ever make a similar game got it so wrong.

There is a clear model to steal from and yet they make one disappointing failure after another. It is like only Blizzard is capable of cashing in on the blatantly obvious. WoW is the same way except for the fact that they are progressively ruining their own system in the name of subscription retention.

But seriously. I really don't get it. I will agree with Yoss it has an almost perfect gear whoring system. But that is literally all the game offers. The combat is almost all mindless until you get to the very high difficulties, when it is no longer mindless but rather lame because you have to constantly kite and pop pots to deal with the ridiculous damage coming in.


And there is nothing to the game but loot and combat and maybe 5 minutes' worth of story that you see over and over if you play the game how they want you to play the game.

You're not doing a very good job of explaining the attraction.


Like I said, I agree with Yoss it has a great loot system. But as far as I can tell that's the only thing good about the series. The cutscenes are nice the first time around but there's like 5 minutes of them total in the game.


I mean, maybe a good loot system IS all people want. Or maybe people actually enjoy the totally mindless combat?

Combat is pretty mindless in most RPGs once you get the hang of them, and it absolutely is in every shooter

For me I liked the PvP in D2 despite the occasional cheats

I do enjoy the mindless combat, as well as coming up with funky builds in D2. The loot whoring is just icing on the cake.

I guess what I have trouble with is what you actually DO is so mind-numbing. Wading through thousand and thousands of totally mindless enemies always made me turn the game off after an hour or so.
