Talk about a sign of complete skepticism and burnout on the old "Hope and Change" hype.

I guess most voters aren't quite as stupid as I thought.

he started his 2012 campaign in 2008, while on his American apology world tour.

I'm still waiting for the usual apologists. There are plenty of rationalizations for this.

The best one probably being, "the people who vote for Obama don't do it based on what he says or does, anyway."

Probably has more to do with two things.

First, his speech was very centrist and contained elements that both liberals and conservatives will love...and hate. Net gain or loss? Probably very little either way.

Second, and more important, almost nobody watches the damn thing in the first place.

His speech was just a recycle of last year, since the government didn't do anything this year he didn't have to change it.

Quote:

An overwhelming majority of Americans approved of the overall message in President Obama's State of the Union speech on Tuesday night, according to a CBS News poll of speech watchers.

According to the poll, which was conducted online by Knowledge Networks immediately after the president's address, 91 percent of those who watched the speech approved of the proposals Mr. Obama put forth during his remarks. Only nine percent disapproved.

Even if he isn't getting a personal bump out of it, most Americans do approve of what he said.

Obama will not really gain significant ground until he is head to head with another candidate. His election also relies on the economy improving. There is a decent chance it will at this point.

albeit slowly like the entire recovery has been.

I thought the election is going to be all about jobs, and to some extent it's true, but not as much as it should have been.

It's pretty clear neither camp is going into the election cycle excited about their candidate, so it's going to come down to who the moderates tolerate more. Right now I'd say the order of precedence would be Romney > Obama > Gingrich, but there's plenty of time for things to change.
