One could say that people hate truth and honesty.

Venues where it may not be true or not as true: Literature, canvass art, dance, music composition, sculpting, operatic divas, etc. some forms of music, some musical venues such as orchestral presentations/interpretations or small chamber music ensembles, philosophy, films - not movies.

In other words, those pursuits not readily enjoyed by very large numbers of people.

Indeed - good point. I think the 'rewards' aren't as high, because of the size of the audience and the relative affliction of BS by the audience.

Not sure what exactly you mean by rewards. What do you think this is worth? http://www.youtube.com/watch?vwp1CH5R-w4&feature=related

The law is a reflection of those who wrote it.

Perhaps if thieves, liars and cheats weren't writing the rules....

It's priceless... But I doubt they are rewarded as much as say Elvis, Madonna, U2, Michael Jackson...

A large multicultural society is not going to have rudimentary social bonds that are dependent on affinity that keeps down immoral or unethical behavior. The big push for a multicultural society can be largely blamed for our wholesale ethical / moral breakdown. You can also lay a lot of blame at the feet of those that rationalize for a living, IE lawyers and politicians. Those people don't need or want principles, what they want are winning/convincing arguments that can sway others. Winning for them is more important than the ultimate outcome which may not be seen/realized for generations after the fact.

Recent research supports this concept as the way the human mind works in general.

I can accept that claim but the point remains is that the aforementioned groups make a living out of being unprincipled pieces of garbage where they are the ones that are supposed be held to a higher standard because they have either been academically trained to understand the foundational basis of our society or purport to run on it.

It is indeed priceless. Bocelli, and the 'boys in the band' for that matter [a small Roman classical conservitorio] are revered and appreciated by serious students of classical music as well as the general public. The nature of his audience is very important to him, but he does not suffer from lack of popularity. I refer you to wiki for a list of his accomplishments.

Bocelli lives very comfortably in his three villas and is a frequent guest of palaces throughout the world. He's also blind and has never seen the treasures collected by his estate. Bocelli says he lives to feel the interaction with his audiences which he describes as a giving of mutual love and respect. True, he's no Madonna or U2 who are piove sul bagnato.

I hopefully ease your cynicism a little which seems to be gnawing at you.

Edited for quote build-up.
