Again, you have to apply for it. Barack, Sr. never did so. He was not a citizen, which is what the new birther movement is clinging onto.
It's a moot point, though. Natural-born has long been interpreted to mean someone whose citizenship was conferred upon them at birth. Since his mother was a citizen and he was born in the US, there's no question of this.

And it had nothing to do with the phrase "natural born citizen." The point of Happersett is that voting isn't a right guaranteed to citizens under the constitution.

Yeah, it's quite clear the language just means you have to have been eligible for citizenship at birth, and that the reason for it was they were afraid a member of the british royal family might be able to win a presidential election in the future.
