China isn't much more powerful today than it was 50 years ago. Right now it has little economic, political or financial clout. The bare bones of what makes China actually strong, i.e. manufacturing and nuclear weapons, have always been growing at a steady rate. It has nothing to do with feeding your swarms of illiterate inbreds.

Just saw an article about why Apple moved so many jobs to China. Apple decided to move from plastic to glass for its IPhone about 6 weeks before debut. When deciding on where to place the order for the glass, Apple execs went to China.

Foxcomm, with money given to it by the Chinese government, built a new factory that could make the glass, even before they got the contract.

When Apple sent word they needed x more Iphones by such and such a date, they immediately woke up 10's of thousands of workers, who live in dormitories on the factory grounds, and started up the production lines. Workers were forced to work 16 hours a day for no overtime until the order was filled.

Now, I am sure right wingers are salivating over this and would absolutely love it if the U.S. worked the same way, but, some of us think this is a bad thing.

As to the OT, I've clashed with Rosaria a bunch but never saw the least sign of any racism. She is one of the few right wingers here that doesn't demonize illegal immigrants, for example.

I think you might be aware but Foxconn is not a Chinese company. There is an unrealistic expectation of the Chinese government being omniscient and omnipotent and capable of micromanaging every single Chinese citizen and the thousands if not tens of thousands of companies starting up every year all across the country. Filter that through hearsay and other BS and I'm sure we're not getting the whole picture - Foxconn is generally not known for poor treatment of workers, but I suppose their Chinese division might be.

The simple fact is that American mass media has deliberately whitewashed the Taiwanese origin of the company out of print, which explains why so many their consumers are omitting this crucial detail.
