Let me know when you find a programmers union Poet.

And Smelly, I do plan on working hard. I have a major project I'm going to be finishing before I leave. I can't me too much of a dillhole, my wife will still work there.

Did you push back on salary? I have a verbal offer to change jobs myself and its 1.5k lower than what I told them my minimum was. I'm not willing to let it go, so I'll be asking for 5k more when the written offer comes.

No, I did not push back on salary and have no plans to. They delivered on what I asked for. The reduction in base I'll get back at the end of the year with a bonus. I'll actually end up coming out a few grand ahead.

I'm good with that. It's a good move for me in all kinds of ways.

I got the official job offer today. The irony of this? My job title is equivalent to the promotion I should have gotten...I was slotted to be made a Software Engineer 2 (which was denied), and the new place hired me as an It Programmer\Analyst 2.

Karma is a harsh mistress

You haven't been paying much attention to the economy lately, have you?

Grats dude! Are you still in VA?

I'm leery to answer this, but yes, we are still here. It's home. I have no plans to be anywhere else, which is a huge part of why I took the job. My current employer has about a 50% chance of going down in flames this year. We just bought a house - I am in no mood to schlep across the country for work. Or even worse, commute to Nova.

From where I remember you are in VA, that wouldn't be too bad of a commute by VA standards. Absolutely ass by any other standards... I had a teacher who commuted from WVA to my school in NOVA. I thought he was a bit insane. He was a good teacher though, so maybe we all have our quirks.

The one thing I love about getting out of NOVA and into NYC is I don't have to drive. Ever. (well, sometimes I take Grandpa out with his car, but that's like 10 blocks there and back). All my New York buddies think I'm crazy for not wanting to drive, but after growing up in that traffic, I just have no desire to get behind the wheel. The funny thing is, I'm pretty Zen when it comes to traffic too. Most of my friends still rage if they hit a slowdown and I just figure, it is what it is.
