Manning didn't release documents to be a whistle-blower and to point out some drastic wrong that needed righting. He was peeved about his job and didn't want to be in the army any more. So, he just grabbed as many secret document disks as he could and handed them out. Pretty much the same kind of thing as any disgruntled employee trashing stuff at work because he is unhappy there. Though, what Manning did had far more potential to have serious bad consequences.

No sympathy for him. His motives were completely without integrity. Just because he's a cause celebre that gives angsty man boys visions of Guy Fawkes masks doesn't make him right. He should spend the rest of his stupid life in prison. I also have no problem with his 8 months in maximum security.

When I was young I used to wonder how people could have participated with or supported the Nazis when they were so blatantly evil. But the people condemning PFC Bradley Manning on this board would have fit in just fine with the 3rd Reich. I think I was just naive to think that people were generally good.

I think the way he has been treated has been pretty shameful.

Manning would have been much better off giving the classified material to an American to release, giving secret documents to a foreign national was stupid and could keep him in jail for most of his life.

We had a guy here who told about some war crimes on Croatian side.
He got killed
I guess real difference was that USA was backing him, so he couldn't
face trial like Manning, so, our bad guys took another way.
