After years of interest free loans, I am sure they can handle handing out 2k per 'abuse' case...

Did you read the prick's justification for it? Well they were already homeless and hadn't gotten a dime so we think 2k will make them feel all warm and fuzzy.

I believe you can't get the help from these big 5 banks without being behind. So if you are keeping up on your loan and are still underwater as far as market value, it will still be to your benefit to stop making payments at least for a short period.
Is this accurate?
I don't think this is the intention.
Looks as though they are trying to stop the strategic foreclosures.
Am I reading this right?

It's been this way for months now.
If you are underwater on your mortgage, your best option was to walk away two years ago. You'd only have five years left to deal with your bad credit, and you wouldn't give a shit because you could afford to pay for everything in cash.

No it's not preventing people from strategic foreclosures, it's a payoff so that people don't file a massive class action lawsuit against the big five.
Or burn them to the ground and march on Washington.

Yes, I agree with you.
My question is that this seems to be designed to get those that are using strategic foreclosure to not take that route while it is being heralded as something to help those of us that are choosing to stay in our homes.
It feels as though it is a push for the banks to not lose out on the interest that would/could have been accrued on these walk-a-way foreclosures.
I wonder what the total gain speculation is against the 25 billion paid out. I would guess it is a net profit for these 5 banks.

I dont know what to make of this latest development. I do not trust the deal. Something tells me this was more of a payoff than a payout, and we will be paying for it.

People who didn't file the proper paperwork on foreclosures ruined our economy?
I'm not sure that's right.
