Just for the record, that Korean kid isn't "homeless" at all, and has had professional voice training at some of the top schools in that country.
Nothing on reality TV is real.
I'm sure no one cares about that in this thread by now, but still.....

Exactly. They know that the best way to hook the audience is with a contestant's back-story.
That is why Susan Boyle, Paul Potts, Andrew Johnston, etc are famous when there are plenty of people who are much better singers but don't have the compelling story to build upon.

At first I thought this was just a hissy-fit and not a meltdown but when Poet started getting prematurely defensive and trying to bully people in to insulting his family it became apparent that he was having a meltdown directly triggered by past events.
