I was going to get a bare bones Yamaha. But, I'm checking out a Triumph I wanted to stay away from a Harley. They are just too boomer cliche. Some of these Triumphs have some retro styling I like. I have a 10-15k budget. I tend to just take off for a weekend with my sleeping bag and a tent and see what the hell happens.
Does anyone have any experience with Triumph?

Not much but the Yamaha cruisers are pretty good. Not sure what you're looking for overall but they're not bad.

I cant make my mind up. Cruisers are heavy and I am all about lightness. But there is something to be said for added weight if it is done right for comfort and function. I am liable to drive across the USA given the right impulse in the summer.

In the BMW line this bike is what i was going for in a bare bike http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/us/en/index.html?content=http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/us/en/bike/urban/f800r/f800r_overview.html¬rack=1
My decision is around Los Angeles traffic driving, where lightness and maneuverability will save my life and highway cruising where you can be comfortable and arrive at your destination without thinking: Man that was a long ride.

My father in law used to ride a Triumph when he was younger and lived in California.
He talks about it all the time. He even has a fucking tattoo that says Triumph.
I don't know much about motorcycles, but of all the things he could have gotten tattooed on himself he chose that, so I'm guessing he enjoyed it a lot.
