WTF?

Well if you have the viewpoint that the dictatorship in South Vietnam was illegitimately supported by the United States over the will of the South Vietnamese people (who overwhelmingly supported Ho Chi Minh in the 50s), then you can spin it that way. As I said, he can overstate his case.

If his goal is to get caught up in stupid semantic debates then I suppose it was a good word choice. If he was looking to make a convincing argument or act as a historian he is an idiot.

His writing on our affairs in Central America is worth a gander. So little attention was paid to what Reagan did there.

It also helps to explain part of the immigration problem.

Always odd to me that 'why are they flocking here?' is never traced back to the utter waste that we laid to civil infrastructure in those countries back in the 80's by the MSM.

Chomsky doesn't hate America

As a gentle reminder, this is the guy who calls America "the world's greatest terrorist state"?

I dunno, it seems pretty accurate to me. We sent a lot of troops to South Vietnam where they essentially took over and ran the country for the U.S.'s benefit. Because I don't think anyone thinks we gave a crap about the south vietnamese, who we killed nearly as many of as the north vietnamese. Most of the fighting was in the south, not the north.

We didn't invade to "overthrow" the south vietnamese government but I don't see why that means you can't call it an invasion.

the problem with Chomsky us that he is right about the transgressions the US government commuted to enact their foreign policy of empire, but he seems to want government to commit those same transgressions to implement a domestic policy of tyranny here to achieve the laughable goal of economic equality that can never be achieve unless you make everyone poor
