There you have it... the "union" is covering this up!!

Cop kills unarmed Marine for trying to enter a vehicle w/his own kids in it.

It is pretty funny to see Rakhir of all posters suddenly relying on the words of this man's union as to what happened.
I'm sure there's more to the story than just a cop blasting away at some guy getting into his truck with his kids, but I'm looking at what could have possibly justified the use of lethal force there and I'm just not seeing it, even with the cop's side of the story. He was acting erratically, knocked down a section of fence and wasn't responding to shouts from the police...NONE of that demonstrates intent to do harm. Maybe he suddenly went out to lunch, but last time I checked we don't kill people for that.

I just posted the quote to give a more detailed account of the incident. I don't see how it is justified, either. Their argument is that he was endangering the kids by driving away with them in his current state, but that doesn't mean you get to shoot him for doing so.
By that logic, if you are fleeing from the police and have someone in your car, they can shoot and kill you to protect the passenger(s) you are endangering.

He has just crashed his SUV into a fence and then wandered off leaving his kids in it. Seems like they were justified in stopping him from driving again.
Why they had to shoot him I don't know. Why'd they let him get back in the car in the first place if they thought it was too dangerous to let him drive?

There are conflicting reports buzzing around. I've read elsewhere that the marine had not entered the car; he was walking back towards it, and the officer "felt threatened", and so shot and killed him. I don't know which is the truer account.
The entire event does seem like suspicious stuff.

If the man was attempting to re-enter the car, then the cop CAN assume he can go pick up a gun.
There is a video showing a man who did not respond to police commands, re-entered his car, and came out with a shotgun. Know what happened next? Killed the cop.
Of course there is a lot of context and backstory that we do not have information on so it can range from extreme overreacting from cop to a valid response to an erratic individual.
