People are buying as much, or more, as ever. Why lower prices when demand is so high?

Iran stopped shipping oil to france and britain as a FU to the EU for the sanctions.

Eventhough iran is not a big provider of oil that move caused instability and extra reliance on the saudis to produce more oil than usual.

So the speculation is that oil will be more expensive.

The United States is awash in gasoline. So much so, in fact, that the country is exporting a record amount of it

The country exported 430,000 more barrels of gasoline a day

United States is on track this year to be a net exporter of refined products for the first time in 62 years.

"ou're paying $4 or $4.50 a gallon to run your rig, yet we're exporting the crap out of this fuel.

The drop was caused partially by the recession but also by the advent of more fuel efficient vehicles, higher prices and the greater use of ethanol as an ingredient in gasoline

It took you longer than usual to get around to blaming Obama, but you tied it up nicely there at the end with all those facts and figures.

People keep talking oil prices but I am talking gas.

Oil prices are not that bad. Gas prices on the other hand are crazy high. There is a disconnect between the price of oil and the price of gas.

There is a glut of gasoline, we're exporting more than ever.

Demand is down.

Because of that, oil companies are actually shutting down refineries.

Oh, darn, that decreases the supply. Prices go up! Stockholders rejoice!

We're exporting gasoline because our refineries do it cheaper than many others. That doesn't really have squat to do with the supply itself.

Mostly I'd say it's a combination of ramping up for the summer season, increased demand, and uncertainty surrounding Iran. I'm not sure what part if any that speculators play in prices at the pump rather than the cost of crude oil, but I suppose it's possible. It's just as likely it's a convenient scapegoat, though.

According to some, high gas prices mean the economy is recovering!
