"Violent crime so far this year in the District has spiked sharply — a 40 percent increase that includes twice as many robberies at gunpoint than at this time last year.
Across the city, all police districts are reporting increases in violent crime, and all but one have had double-digit percentage increases, according to internal Metropolitan Police Department documents."

This is for one month. Probably an unusually warm one, if D.C. was like the rest of the eastern seaboard.
If the trend continues at the same rate for a year, you may be on to something.
But, as mentioned, crime has been trending downward for most of the country for a decade or so.
And where I live, we have pretty strict gun control and we are always in the running for the safest community in the nation.

So prolonged high unemployment would have nothing to do with crime rate.... gotta be the guns gotcha.

Statistics are great!
This year, it's been predicted different rates will be 25% more accurate 12% of the time, give or take a few %.
