I don't really see why. Luntz is just a doofus. He probably would have said the same thing about Clinton if one of his script writers had thought of it at the time. I don't see it as a big deal, although it's a little embarassing when it's used in an introduction for serious politicians.

I know it's a joke. I said so. A joke kind of like, "HEY I GOT A GUN!" at a TSA checkpoint.
Which is also illegal.
"Threatening the President of the United States is a class D felony under United States Code Title 18, Section 871. It consists of knowingly and willfully mailing or otherwise making "any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States".
I am pretty sure running him over would cause bodily harm.
