Total refinery capacity is already in the sweet spot from a business perspective.

Unless you want publicly owned refineries, I'm not sure what else you can hope for.

TheGreen River shale formation in Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado, has an estimated 800 billion barrels of oil, which is three times the proven reserves of Saudi Arabia

pretending that estimated reserves and proven recoverable reserves are the same thing is pretty dumb.

Green river needs a ton of water and power for the extraction process. There are currently no viable options to bring water and power into the area on the scale needed.

You might as well be championing the mineral reserves on the moon at this point.

Getting power to an oil field is rarely a problem. Reason should be obvious.

Obama against drilling for oil

Is that why more drilling permits and refinery permits have been approved in the last 4 years than the previous 12 years combined?

that would be only private and state lands...federal land, oil drilling production is down,, buckweet

but like you and obama are taking credit, but over look the part that it takes orver 5+ years to get production going

Conservatives live in a bubble sealed off from reality it seems.

U.S. Oil Production: Up or Down?

While Republicans have criticized Obama’s energy policies, the president has touted — as he did in a March 11 press conference — that oil production rose last year.

Obama, March 11: Last year, American oil production reached its highest level since 2003. Let me repeat that. Our oil production reached its highest level in seven years. Oil production from federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico reached an all-time high.

Obama is right on both counts. EIA data (table 4a) shows that total domestic production of crude oil was 5.51 million barrels per day, including 1.64 million barrels per day from the Gulf of Mexico. Historical EIA data shows that the last time the U.S. produced that much total oil was in 2003, when it generated 5.68 million barrels per day. (We already addressed that 2010 was indeed a record year for the Gulf.)

So you want Obama to nationalize and force them to drill? Permits are there, what more do you want him to do?

Taking credit? I'm just stating facts. Perhaps you should have blamed Bush for not getting the permits going?

Or you accept reality and blame the actual companies for not drilling, instead of blaming Government for doing it's job...
