The base isn't attracted to Romney because he doesn't share their values and priorities. Simple as that.

You can't win with just the base. You need moderates/independents. There is no getting around that. If the choice between Obama and Santorum the choice is easy for me.

It's not even 20% of the voters. It's 20% of primary voters. Huge difference.

Kinda hard to win without the base either.

My vote is meaningless since this is a one party state, but I wouldn't vote for either of those two.
