This. You do not need an i7 for gaming. Go with an i5 and it'l work just as well.

If it's just for gaming, you can save a few bucks by going with a 2500k instead of a 2600k.
You may be able to save a few bucks by going with SATA2 HDs. Current HDs can't get anywhere close to SATA3 throughput.
You might want to consider getting a motherboard that will accept the new Ivy Bridge cpus and pci-e 3 gpus, which are due out sometime this year.
Make sure your case is big enough to handle the gpu you want.

I agree with fred!
As of last week I am running this:
It currently kicks much ass. It's unlocked and can be oc'ed to 4.2 but I don't have a need for it yet. I am currently playing World of Tanks, Starcraft 2 and Skyrim on "High" settings without so much as a hiccup and getting framerates I have (personally) never seen before, to wit:

and this is with a GTX460SE, a mobo that cost me $99 and 8 GB of ram (the mobo will hold 32 gb). With oc'ing I will have this cpu at least 5 years. You could get my rig with that vid card and be set.
Overpay if you want but it's a silly thing to do.

WOT is terrible to use as a benchmark test for a video card.
