I'll take the east coast. Keep your quakes. I'll stick with snow.

Tych has it correct. New England has its benefits.

Snow, we can even build shelters made of snow.

No tornadoes, no earthquakes, even the hurricanes are blocked/absorbed by the mountains.

I'll take the self-sustainable clean country Northern Vermont living we have up here.

Farmland, wildlife, fresh water, etc.

As long as we can keep the urban masses on the other side of the Adirondacks and Green/White mountains we will be fine.

The Quebecers are easy to tell by their accents, and even then their food is great!

No earthquake has ever bothered me for more than 15 seconds.

The only people who fear earthquakes are ones with vivid imaginations.

You've got wayyyy more valid reason to fear pigeons than you do earthquakes.

Did You Know?

Geological, geophysical, geotechnical, and historical data and analyses show that the earthquake hazards in Southern Nevada are significant.

According to NBMAG/NESC, Nevada is ranked third in the nation for being at risk for large magnitude seismic activity, behind Alaska and California.

Nevada is ranked 5th nationally in estimated losses on an annualized basis due to earthquakes (Nevada Earthquake Safety Council, 2001).

The Nevada Earthquake Risk Mitigation report emphasizes the need to evaluate system vulnerability for lifeline utilities and bridges, to inventory potentially seismically dangerous buildings, and to develop an integrated approach to seismic design for new construction (Nevada Earthquake Safety Council, 2001).

Las Vegas is at high risk for casualties and structural damage from a large magnitude earthquake, due to increased population density. Our buildings are built to withstand the pull of gravity downward but earthquakes move structures in all directions.

Tornadoes can be treated the same way as quakes. If you're willing to spend the money you can be pretty safe in both. If you're not or you're in the wrong place at the wrong time... splat.

a would have thought you'd have more time to prepare for a tornado than for a quake?
