Abortion has calmed down into something approaching a consensus and the economy seems to be doing better so Republicans are desperate for another issue to energize the base with.
Although oil prices seem like a better thing to get stupid sheep rabid over than contraception.

The problem with oil prices is they might go back down and then you can't use it as an attack any more. The other problem with the oil price attack is it is completely retarded but that isn't a problem when you're talking about RWNs.

It has always revolved around a male hatred of women who have sex. The whole point of social conservatism has always been a hatred and fear of female sexuality.
You see, social-con males, such as our Republican law-makers who could not pass up an opportunity to rail against the Pill, are the ones who could not get laid in high school. They can not get over the fact that women have a right to reject them, and then have sex with someone else who isn't quite so psychotic. Therefore they are obsessed with controlling women's sexuality.
Ever hear some loser rail on and on about why women won't date "nice guys" such as himself? Yep. Future Republican lawmaker in the making.
Other conservatives, such as econ conservatives and neocons, are too busy making the rich richer or bombing brown people, respectively, to care too much about this, to their credit. Also, they probably got laid during high school.
