Valve is going to announce its own console next week?

It is a more reasonable business solution to getting into the console market than the other approaches that rely on their console selling to a lot of people. The development of the console should have been relatively cheap compared to the costs associated with any other console and there is no worry about lining up developers to make games.
Should be interesting.

All Valve really needs to do here is provide a machine that works for mainstream gamers. If it will play PC games fairly, gives you access to steam (probably the point, attracting more business) and also works like a living room console, I don't see how it could fail.

We're told that the basic specs of the Steam Box include a Core i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GPU.
I just don't see how such a system could be priced anywhere near Xbox/PS levels, especially once you throw in the mboard, case, keyboard/mouse, 1 gamepad, etc
They're asking people to throw away their consoles for a gaming service they can download for free on any PC. They're also asking people to forget that they can plug in their existing PC to the TV.

Console gaming is dying out.. It's just not worth it, you will never get the same sharp graphics or control as you will on a pc.

I wonder though if they'll throw in a wireless mouse/keyboard etc, FPSs in particular are atrocius to play with gamepads.

It's simple..
Just look at the number of games uniquely available to PC compared to Consoles and sales.
People are getting sick of being handed shit and a higher price then a PC game and not being able to enjoy better graphics and control..
It's simple, and when the new gen of consoles comes they will cost an arm and a leg, and then the games, and all the fucked up online gaming costs ie: xbox.
PC is the individualistic free thinking gamer while consolefags are just casualfagots and sheeple.
