Basically rumor says they're planning on releasing neatly packaged PC that'll look and feel like a console but have all Steam services neatly packaged to it.

It will fail. Most console makers lose millions of dollars from consoles before they start to make a profit

Valve is a great company and this is a great idea depending on price. Getting access to steam, and a keyboard/mouse is vastly superior to the console experience right now.

Unless it is priced really low I cannot see it going anywere. Most would understand that you can just buy a computer. However; if they can create a system that will run all their games and is cheaper than an Xbox, they might have something. I don't see that happening unless they want to take a loss on the hardware.

Console makers get their money from developer packages, licences and royalties, thats why they can afford selling the console itself at loss.

who'll buy an overpriced PC with Steam and Valve logos on it when you could build equal pc with half the price?

Its pure fail. A move like this can kill a company. Whoever is in charge at Valve is stupid. They should stick to what they know, games

They might just do that though. Amazon is taking losses on the Kindle Fire just so that they can get more people using their e-services.

Consoles are an obsolete technology.

They don't really fill a need that can't be filled by something else better.

IF there is a next generation of consoles they will be the last. Media consumption has evolved.

All of you are underthinking this.

Valve hasn't really missed yet - with anything. I think you might be surprised, since with Steam packaged into it and undoubtedly every single "free" to play game probably pre-installed they could latch on to a huge money maker, even if they sell the device at a loss.

In fact, I'll bet that if they do this the device is going to be less than the cost of a current gen console.

Imagine a box you could plug into any monitor or TV in your house, and play any game Steam offers on that monitor or TV.

If you can't imagine such a box, Steam has, and they already figured out how to make it so.

The world is changing.

Valve is pretty god damn amazing.
