BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland’s requirement that residents show a “good and substantial reason” to get a handgun permit is unconstitutional, according to a federal judge’s opinion filed Monday.

States can channel the way their residents exercise their Second Amendment right to bear arms, but because Maryland’s goal was to minimize the number of firearms carried outside homes by limiting the privilege to those who could demonstrate “good reason,” it had turned into a rationing system, infringing upon residents’ rights, U.S. District Judge Benson Everett Legg wrote.

“A citizen may not be required to offer a `good and substantial reason’ why he should be permitted to exercise his rights,” he wrote. “The right’s existence is all the reason he needs.”

A fascinating position by the government. Lets see if it works in reverse.

Why so many Mastboro? I'm a combat vet living in Detroit and I only have 5 in the house, one of those being a pistol owned by my wife that she uses for her ccp.

I just like guns. I have been shooting since I was 8 years old. I love working on them, shooting them and just up keeping them. Plus my wife enjoys shooting with me. And I would love to be able to give them to my kids when they are old enough. I'm a rifle kind of guy. I love long range shooting, i like being able to reach out and touch something from a long ways away. My wife is too. I'm getting us pistols just for fun and for a side arm when I hunt. Shotguns are mostly for trap shooting and just general fun. The rifles are for hunting/target shooting and I love to have a bunch of all different calibers. Not a 1 size fits all approach. I mean I was the only 11 year old in school when kids were reading comics and stuff, I was reading gun magazines and things. Teachers always gave me weird looks. Was kind of fun. Its gonna be a family thing for us though.
