I don't know if there has been a thread on this but I just finished reading it and I highly recommend it. Even if you hate apple. He is a fascinating man and the biography does a really good job of capturing both the good and the bad. It is by no means a flawless book but the story and the character are exceedingly compelling.

I don't want to say to much because I wouldn't do the book justice and I may just spoil things but the book did a really good job at establishing what he contributed. It is also a book that touches on a vast array of really good issues from education in the future to the importance of those who make products and a whole bunch of other stuff. When he died I remember seeing all of these books about him and thought it was crazy but you could write a large number of books based on what he did.

You can talk about early computers, early gui, management, motivation, speaking, retail, celebrity, parenting, and on and on.

I think I got through like 20 pages before I got distracted and moved on. I should really go back and finish it.

The start is a little slow but it helps set the stage for the rest. There is also a point in the middle where it becomes clear they didn't have time to edit it properly because it was rushed out around his death.

How can I be the only one that read this?

I would read it but I heard it is a rehash of things I already know from previous articles or books. Jobs was a perfectionist but "real artists ship." He didn't bathe when he was younger, wore crappy clothes, fasted for weeks on end, was mean to a lot of people, strange, vindictive and incredibly creative with a good vision. He was adopted but eventually found out he had a sister, was a good tipper to his father but didn't know he was his dad.

Is there more to it than that?

I read it. I had nothing to comment on that wasn't already covered in your opening post.

Hippie? Bonk, Steve Jobs was as far away from the title of hippie as you are from the title of gigolo.
