Long enough to safetly turnoff the computer yourself or have it automatically turn off.

Get a generator. I have nonstop power with it. Six gallons of gas last 12 hours and can power nearly my whole home.

Depends on how widespread the power outage is. Even a generator won't help you if the power is out wherever your gateway is located.
You're better off with a smartphone and a data plan, though even that has the same limitations.

Actually if you have a smartphone you can post without a computer and do most all your business your computer does except for word processing, some programs, and video games.
Get a smart phone
I barely have time at work to check the outpost with my phone but thats cool

That one goes 4.5 minutes if you're drawing full power. 16 minutes at half power.
