The fact that abortion rates are correlated to ignorance with regards to birth control I don't think it is an unfair assumption to assume they may be lacking in education about abortion as well. It is not like women can't be pushed towards this decision by others.

You people act like the doctors are all anti-abortion zealots getting a free pass to do dastardly things.

The bill may leave an onerous opening for doctorial neglect, but the assumption that doctors are going to use this to screw people over is almost as ridiculous as the claim that this is some pro-life anti-abortion crusade.

The reasoning behind the bill, which nobody is even acknowledging, is that doctors can't possibly catch every single possible birth defect and it is unfair to sue them for obscene amounts of money for something they could not control. Now patients with misplaced anger can no longer destroy a doctors livelihood with a frivolous lawsuit.

In my opinion this bill should fail to pass and they should come back with a revised bill that puts more accountability on the doctors which it is protecting.

No, that's not the reasoning. The reasoning is that by allowing someone to sue you are implying some babies are better off not being born. Read what the sponsor said.

And that reasoning applies to any medical malpractice. Lots of bad things happen to people that doctors cannot control. Why not just remove the ability for people to sue doctors at all?

For those who think, "What difference does it make?" whenever the subject of whether or not a candidate is pro choice or anti choice comes up in an election cycle....this is why it matters. You elect enough of these idiots and shit like this becomes law.

Hopefully the long dark night of far right teabagger extremism is almost over. I think I'll write a check to the DNC in furtherance of the effort to oust these shitbags from office.

I had a dream. It was an incredible dream. When I awoke, I had a huge mess to clean up.
